The Balkans were important because it was in the middle of four seas. Also there were many countries that had land in the Balkans. The Balkans were the junction between the empires Ottoman, Russian, and Austro-Hungarian. It had many water ways and became the gateway between the East and the West. Dalmatia is the region of eastern Adriatic. Moldavia is a landlocked country located in the middle of the Balkans.
